Clarity is a Dapp enabled protocol that lets anyone create, manage, and govern any type of organization on the Cardano Blockchain. The aim of Clarity is to provide the Cardano ecosystem with a trustworthy, simple, and cost effective way to create, manage, and govern decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).
Like many other blockchains, Cardano is facing several challenges such as congestion, smart contract parallel and concurrent behaviour, Plutus Application Backend development and developer availability. Clarity DAO Incubator has offered different plans to address these challenges. For instance, for congestion, Clarity will offer the most efficient smart contract approach to DAO setup possible, including escrow & batching systems as needed to ensure a positive user experience, even in the face of chain congestion.
Clarity seeks to provide a DAO incubator program to the existing Cardano communities. The platform has a suite of primitive DAO tooling products that they will provide access to. Some of these including NFT minting service and CC Bot are already available, while others; Clarity Protocol and escrow service are in progress.
How Clarity DAO Incubator will work
The Clarity Protocol will be the first DAO on the Cardano blockchain whose goal is to act as a platform that facilitates organizations, entrepreneurs, communities, companies, and investors to operate in a transparent, efficient, and friendly manner. Through its incubator, Cardano community will have access to primitive DAO tooling.
The plan is to have the protocol ready in 6 to 12 months. When ready, it will be possible for the community to create and manage DAOs without writing any code, establish governance rules and execute votes on-chain, manage treasury funds, and contribute to Clarity’s open smart contract library to earn rewards. Clarity would like to enable creators and communities on Cardano to build new, viable on-chain DAOs and also to lower the barrier to entry for people to create, manage, and interact with DAOs.
The team
The team is made up of Logan Panchot and Justin Schreiner. Logan is a Stanford University Alumnus and a former American soccer player. He is the co-founder of Clear Contracts. He has been a member of Project Catalyst since Feb. 17, 2021. Logan has posted five ideas so far including Cardano Lobbying Think Tank, DAO smart contract templetization, sports industry smart contract, Compliant DAO infrastructure and American USDC think tank.
Justin is a University of Kansas alumnus with a computer Science degree and the co-founder of Clear Contracts. His technical skills include C++, Python, Ruby on Rails, Javascript among others. He too has been a member of Project Catalysts since Feb. 17,2021 and posted two ideas; influencer marketing smart contract and open smart contract library.
Logan and Justin will be the touch points for all incubator participants by working directly with them to provide primitive DAO tooling and gather feedback or insights.
The team plans to rely on members of the incubator to collaborate, share ideas, form partnerships and work to push the project forward.
The budget
Clarity is asking for $70,000 in funding. The amount will be allocated to the following tasks;
50,000 will be equally distributed to incubation participants to further their progress. Clarity plans to cap the incubator at 10 and strategically inject >=5,000 into each incubator participant. Therefore, $50,000 of this funding will be equally split between incubator participants.
20,000 will be used in development of iterations of primitive DAO tooling suite carried out by internal team, team salaries and incubator specific work such as: development of product iterations, incubator operations, incubator marketing and incubator recruiting.
Final Thoughts
DAOs continue to gain traction as their utility is realised across different industries and verticals. For this reason, it is important that the next generation has access to tools needed to get their DAOs off the ground. Clarity understands the high technical barrier to entry in the Cardano blockchain, making it hard to create and manage DAOs. Therefore, the creation of an incubation program to onboard initial DAOs onto Clarity’s DAO tooling platform is an opportunity to lower the barrier to entry so that community members can create, manage and interact with DAOs.
